Do you own a business? Is it protected?

by Asha Stokes

Insurance. I know, it’s not the most exciting word in the dictionary but definitely one of the most necessary. As a business owner, it is important to protect and insure every aspect of your business. My team specializes in the meeting the insurance and financial needs of our policyholders who do not work a traditional 9-5. Here’s a quick summary of how we can help:

1. General Liability– This insurance offers two sides of protection. Your liability insurance extends if a customer files a lawsuit against you/your business. An example would be a slip and fall accident in your store or a customer getting food poisoning from a dish you prepare as a chef. The second side of a business owner’s policy covers your contents. This is extremely important. Our boutique owners need to insure the clothing on their racks and in their storage. Our restaurant/food truck owners have special stoves and other equipment. The bottom line is, if you were to suffer an insurable loss, we protect your business to get you back in action, quickly! Also, many leasing companies and venues require certificates of liability. We have a response time of less than 24 hours!

2. Workers Compensation– State required insurance to protect you against employee illness and injury.

3. Short Term Disability – If you become fully disabled, you can qualify for receiving up to $3,000 each month for up to 3 years. As a non-protected independent business owner, you do not pay into these types of benefits through payroll as you would as an employer. So if you are unable to run your business, your income stops. But you CAN protect your paycheck

4.Life Insurance– Do you have a plan in place for your business to continue if something happens to you? A solid way to have that protection is by having a life insurance plan that will allow your “next in line” to have the funds necessary to continue your business in the case of an untimely loss. Most people do not start a business with the end in mind, so allow your legacy you began to continue for generations.

Remember, it only takes one incident to ruin your business and reputation. This can cause your business to experience a loss that you can never recover from. Insure and protect what you love. Contact us by phone, email or stop by the office to discuss ways to upgrade your business today!
