What is an immune system?

by Cheryl Tate

Explaining the immune system takes understanding some anatomy. Knowing how the body works is also key in maintaining its healthy status. We live in an amazing body, think of it as a functioning unit, encased in skin. Your skin is your first protector, without it muscles and organs are exposed. Your immune system protects you from outside forces seen and unseen. Having a healthy immune system can be an excellent asset.  It can afford a life of freedom or an unhealthy existence that wears you down.

Our immune system has 3 types of white blood cells: phagocytes eat harmful bacteria, blymphocytes creates antibodies, and tlymphocytes control immune responses and helps fight pathogens and viruses. Keeping white blood cells healthy are key to a healthy immune system. Having a healthy immune system can make one’s life an easy journey.

Maintaining a healthy immune system requires…staying healthy. Clean air and water are necessities. Exposure to contaminated water and air pollution can attack your immune system. Consuming quality food, lots of fresh vegetables we keep control of our health.  Whole unprocessed foods do wonders for one ‘s body with examples like vitamin C rich foods, such as oranges, garlic, and antioxidants which are in berries and roots that play an important role in strengthening the immune system.

Other aspects that help the immune system are living stress free. We live in a hectic environment and in the season of COVID-19 there are even more stressors. Adequate sleep, exercise and quiet time are essential for balance. Healthy human life requires balance, a positive mindset will provide tools for stress.

Adding supplements to your immune building lifestyle can assist with a consistent healthy regimen. We face several challenges that fight our immune system.

Everyday elixir is a supplement Chef Cheryl Tate has made to help maintain the immune system, with natural ingredients and good intentions. A healthy immune system is like a forcefield we are not educated about. It is usually after the fact its compromised, that its value is understood. Maintaining the immune system, like the digestive and reproductive system is important. Educating one’s self about the body is the start of a strong defense.

Here is a short cartoon that helps explain our immune system:
