Are You Doing Justice to Your Skin?

by: Delphine Nelson;

One of the greatest dynamics I experienced in my life was the day I woke up, at 52 years old, and realized that I had not taken the best care of my skin – the largest organ of my body.  Particularly, the skin on my face.

What in the world do I mean?  Well, seeing that my mom is 82 years old and you could never tell, I obviously am blessed with great genes.  But that did NOT give me a pass.  Especially when I could now see the pores over my nose that I had not seen ten years earlier, and my face was wider than it should be and I was NOT incredibly overweight.

What I did not know was that it is not enough to simply throw water over your face or lather it up with some type of soap that you like.  You need to cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize and protect your skin – especially on your face and hands.  This is critical for us ladies, especially because of the game many people like to play at our expense (you know, trying to guess our age by our hands, neck and eyes)!

Cleansing with the correct formulation will not only remove surface dirt, but tones (firms) and brightens the skin.  Exfoliating weekly goes down to the dermis, the first level of skin, pulls out dead skin cells (that cause the appearance of aging) and refines (shrinks) your pores all in one stroke.  Moisturizing (with a sunscreen, mind you) not only infuses needed antioxidants and vitamins into the skin, but also forms a protective barrier to prevent the full on damage of the sun (which pulls out moisture and possibly could attribute to skin cancer).  Finally, you must protect that area under your eyes with an eye cream that will lock in moisture, slowing down the appearance of fine lines, puffiness and discoloration.

These steps are basic and fundamental, and if not a part of your daily regimen, you are short changing your skin.  Some ladies are gorgeous without the aforementioned, meaning you’ve been getting by under the wire.  But if you could be more lovely than you already are, then why not be?

I encourage you, ladies, to seek out a tried and proven skin care product that will maintain your natural beauty or correct flaws that prevent your natural beauty from glowing through.  Remember, we are in earthen vessels that are breaking down daily because of the natural aging process, whether we want to acknowledge this or not.  Don’t you owe it to yourself to invest into you so that you will be the best version of you that you deserve to be?
