Brace yourselves, get ready for a new variation, a new process, more statistics, many of us are in peril of the next… Instability is common, rules and regulations change daily or weekly. Retail is a concern as stores are not open to in person shopping. Let’s pivot, pick up your order, Amazon and UPS are happy to deliver. Keep your distance, get this special mask. We react to the news commentary, civic leaders, and consensus.  Reacting is a call to your adrenal glands to secrete adrenalin, a flight or fight hormone. This causes the body to brace for the action. Over time it makes us short tempered and anxious. It works against our health to react all the time; the body must rest to recover.

Embrace yourself by living in the present: right now, is an extraordinary time to take control. With everything negative around us, we need the ability to look beyond the current climate.   There is beauty in the moment.  Even though it may seem we have no control, we have control of our emotions, we can choose how we react to these negative energies. We can embrace negative interactions, instead of reacting. It gives you control of the situation, by owning and making attempts to improve, this is empowering. This country has a history of turbulence from its inception.  We should develop a way to prepare for the next interesting set of circumstances to come our way.

We can embrace the next election by being proactive, by making our needs known and understood. Embracing our leaders in the beginning instead of waiting and making no requests. We can embrace our children’s wellbeing, as this needs our attention. We can embrace awareness for the youth to have normalcy in their childhood so it can be memorable.

To embrace a better life, despite the current climate takes courage. To look past the stress and decide we can improve is an exercise in mental wellness.  To understand the current situation is not normal and that balance is possible.

According to Purpose plus Profit: “Turbulence is actually a necessary condition for change to happen. In systems change theory, turbulence is a “perturbation.”  Systems resist change. When systems are being perturbed, they self-organize around a new set of conditions.  This self-organizing concept makes turbulent times not something to be feared but embraced”.

Our insight on perturbation and self-organizing suggests we should first embrace the opportunity for positive change to emerge, and act upon it.  Running in the opposite direction or lamenting that things will never be the same will not help us visualize change as an opportunity.

Reactionary behavior is a detriment, it robs the person of the choice of how to behave. Understanding preparedness can ease with stressors of everyday life. The best analogy I can find for this would be living in Los Angeles. We need a disaster preparedness kit in our house as well as our vehicles for when the earthquake hits. We don’t quite know when it’s coming, this is a necessity in Southern California to be ready. We must embrace that an earthquake is coming and be ready for its disastrous effects.
