The economic stability of our communities is directly related to the mindset of the people in the community willing to stabilize it.  Guided by the principle of community first and foremost then accept the thought that “we are all we need” and produce the results of that theorem[1]. In my opinion, anyone who does not support this principle in demonstration nor deed causes “economic instability” and must be immediately and vehemently dealt with, by the community.

Economically stable communities self-governed.  All decisions regarding the “community” are determined by the people who come out of that community with the principles, morals and values of that community. The community speaks and acts with one voice. It includes no other outside influence from media, politicians, investors, clergy, payoffs, or backroom deals.  Economically stable communities do not compromise.

Today, we are indoctrinated with someone else’s definition of economics, economy, which is the limited scope.  When “media” speaks of the economy, that narrative is about the economy of the United States of America, not our community’s economy or your individual economy.  Capitalism (an economic and political system in which a country’s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, which leads to inequality, market failure, damage to the environment, short-termism, excess materialism and boom and bust economic cycles)  is the system that defines “America.”  If our communities are to reach economic stability, we must starting practicing a system that works for our communities.

What we must do now is practice conscious consumerism by shopping local businesses in your neighborhood and the community at-large. This allows us to concentrate our spending. Find local merchants and services by utilizing “green book” type online websites and call services, e.g. call 1-800 Unite US where you can find business that are trusted because they have been “vetted.”   Contact the L.A. South Chamber of Commerce, www.lasouthchamber.com and visit our on-line directory of member businesses.  Tell others about where you shop. In conclusion, each community over time must develop its own economic system that works best for that community.  As stated above, capitalism does not work for them either, so why are we continuing to participate?

[1] A theorem is a statement that can be demonstrated to be true by accepted mathematical operations and arguments.  In general, a theorem is an embodiment of some general principle that makes it part of a larger theory.  The process of showing a theorem to be correct is called proof.
