The male householder in Matthew chapter 20 had a vineyard. He was over the house and had authority over the house. He would wake up early in the morning together with the dawn and he would go out to search for laborers early to hire them to do work.

He made an agreement with the first laborers for a penny a day (a denarion) a day’s wage. These first called were the twelve apostles. (you see this is a prophetic scripture) In the third hour (9:00a.m.) (the hour named in connection with Pentecost. There were others (the sixth hour-about mid-day) called who were not present at the first. Other labourers were then engaged. At the sixth hour, the hour of the vision when Peter was sent to the Gentiles at Caesarea. At the ninth hour-about 3:00pm (the hour when the angel appeared to Cornelius and others became labourers. At the eleventh hour (about 5:00pm) immediately before the close of the dispensation. This hour is still future because the nation refused the call to repent. The eleventh hour is yet future..

Matthew 19:29 speaks of the time of reckoning in Matthew 19:29. So we have here these labourers who are rewarded in according “the one” who holds the prerogative to disburse awards as He sees fit. The householder gives all the labourers opportunities to work and earn whatever the householder deems fit to reward them. Then comes the time to pay them off for their labors. He asked them in Matthew 20:7 Why are you still standing here idle all the day? They said, “no one” has hired us. The lord of the vineyard comes and says, “call the labourers and give them their hire” beginning from the last to the first that would be those who came about the eleventh hour, 5:00pm. They received every man a penny for their day’s wage. When the labourers who had come first, they were expecting to receive more than a penny. When they did not receive more than those who had worked less hours, but the same penny for the work, they murmured, complained against the goodman of the house. They were saying, you paid those who came at the eleventh the same thing you paid us who worked all day and received the same amount. The householder said you made an agreement with me to receive a penny for the day. Is it not lawful that I make the decision to give that which is my own. Is your eye evil because my eye is good?” He said, “the last shall be first and the first shall be last.

A similar situation arises when Zebedee’s wife came to Jesus with her sons. And I say she put them up to this selfish act of determining to get from Jesus the “best seats in the house” so to speak. She wanted Jesus to seat her two sons, one on each side of Jesus when He sits on His throne of glory. He answered her like this, “You don’t know what you are asking. Are they able to drink of the cup that I drink (voluntarily go to the cross to be crucified?) And be baptized of the baptism that I am baptized of. They say yes, we are able.” Jesus said, you can drink of the cup I drink of and be baptized with the baptism of which I am baptized; but only my Father can grant who will sit on my left and on my right. Just like with the householder, Jesus Christ alone; the Father alone is sovereign and sets and the boundaries which may be granted that He has set in His own wisdom to do.

Listen. People want a lot of things. People ask a lot of things, but not able to pay the price to possibly receive what the consequences will be. Do you think that the wages of the unions are the same as with the heavenly wage with the same standard? Do you think rewards will be allocated the way they are here on earth?  Naaaw. Union wages will not make a difference. There will be no raffle, there will be no bargaining. There will be no drawing. There will be no negotiating; no nothing like our meager walk. He will give to whom He determines to whom to give. Read Matthew chapter 25. He will judge. Earthly wages will not make a difference. Nothing will be counted like it is here on earth! Understand this. Jesus is not shy. He is not flimsy. He is not wishy washy. He will decide all things at the right time and in the right place. He will judge righteously. Let peace abound. Be at peace among yourselves. It is the pathway to all things. Thanks for reading!
